Lavender Scent in Aromatherapy

The science of aromatherapy has been commonly practiced since ancient times within Chinese, Indian, Egyptian, and even Italian cultures. Simply stated, aromatherapy is a scientific method of healing the physical body, mind and spirit through positive stimulation of the brain by using natural scents. These scents are derived from the naturally extracted aromatic oils taken from trees, plants, flowers, herbs and even fruits. The healing properties of these natural scents are numerous and are widely used during massages and relaxation exercises.

Some of these aromatherapy scents include the tea tree, lemon, chamomile, rosemary, jasmine, lavender and peppermint. Each of these scents, used by itself or combined with others has unique healing effects so careful consideration should be given when choosing a scent. For instance, tea tree oil when applied directly can be used to cure athlete’s foot. Lavender, chamomile and rosemary are all used to reduce anxiety, they relax you emotionally and physically, and of course they have the ability to reduce stress. Applied physically, lavender oil heals cuts and bruises and can even help with burns and scalds. Eucalyptus and peppermint bring fast relief of coughs. It has even recently been realized that peppermint can reduce the effects of jetlag. Although there are almost over ninety different types of essential oils used, the lavender scent in aromatherapy seems to be quite popular. Although a professional aromatherapy massage with lavender oil is very relaxing and melts your stress away, there are a few other ways to experience the healing and calming benefits of lavender scent in aromatherapy right at home. Combine the oil with aromatherapy candles, or even aromatherapy body candles can be beneficial to your health.

For those lucky enough to have a garden, simply strolling through your field of lavender flowers will soothe and relax you. During a bath, lavender bath salts and bath balls can be added to your bath water. If you prefer to use the essential oil, be sure to dilute it as recommended as direct application may harm the skin. It can be diluted in oil, honey or even milk. You would definitely enjoy this lavender bath as it will sooth your mind, relax aching muscles, as well as prepare you for a restful night’s sleep.

Adding some drops of lavender oil (either pure oil or body candle essential oil) to some water in a spray bottle can be used as an air refreshner. Spray this in all the rooms in your house and you are guaranteed to experience the relaxing effects of it. Spraying this around your bedroom during bedtime can also contribute to a good night’s sleep. In addition to the air refresher, lighting scented lavender aromatherapy candles in all the rooms in your home has the same relaxing and soothing effect. These are less pricy than other scents and can be found in any department store. Of course, in my view, getting a full body lavender scented aromatherapy massage is the ideal relaxation and stress eliminator.

So if you have not yet had the exquisite experience of aromatherapy, there are a few simple things you and your loved ones can do to enjoy this ancient science of healing and relaxation right at home.
