Red has a nervous effect on people maybe because of all the other colors it is the one that really stands out and demands your attention. It is also representative of anger and heat. Pastel colors always seem to leave a warm, soothing effect on us like baby blue, pink and yellow. Meditation is linked closely with Buddhism, it was the main practice founded by the Prince Siddharta (The Buddha). First of all, meditation can be done “easily”. What I mean by “easy” is that meditation requires no physical workout, and all you have to do is just sit and get into a state of relaxation with your eyes closed; the goal is to empty your mind and let go of your stress. But for a lot of people, meditation can be hard to do, and this is especially true if you have a hectic lifestyle or experiencing a lot of stress in your life. You may find it hard to empty your mind as your mind will wander around beyond your control.

There are many ways and methods to get into a state of meditation. One of the many methods helpful for beginners is by using an object. An object can be a peaceful painting such as flower or water.  Any paintings or object can help, however stay away from using disturbing, dark paintings or images as your meditation object. My recommendation is to use natural paintings (waterfall, flowers, mountains, rivers, birds, and natural sceneries).

When using this method, it can be used by opening your eyes then closing your eyes. The painting can help with visualization.  Allow your mind to get into a meditation state while focusing on the image in front of you.

In using the peaceful painting such as flower, you are focusing on the symbol of birth, growth and death. It is a symbol of life. A fully bloomed flower does not get bloomed right away. It starts off with the petal, and connection to the stalk, the shading and changes slowly caused by the elements of earth, the sun, the light, the rain,  and slowly getting the flower at its peak beauty. But the flower does not stay beautiful forever, as it will soon withers. This is the natural cycle of all living things on earth. If along the way, you find your thoughts developing, let them flow naturally.

That’s right, walking can actually help relieve and prevent stress altogether. It may not seem very feasible, but exercise in general is one of the best ways to relieve stress.  Don’t let the word exercise intimidate you, because in reality exercise can start off small by walking. I am sure you can agree with me on this. Not only is this healthy for your mind, but for your body as well, so you are relieving your stress while staying physically fit, pretty amazing huh? Of course it is! It is simple and easy to do, all you need to do is to get into a routine of going for a long walk at least once a day.

To get you started, read the following tips and you will be able start relieving your stress immediately.

1) Write out a schedule either in your mind or on paper if it helps you more. You must include your work or school hours and other daily activities that will decide when you will be able to take your walks.

2) If you have a pet dog, he/she will most likely be eager to accompany you on your walks, which can actually relieve more stress than usual considering you will have a companion during your everyday walks.

3) You should purchase a pedometer, which is an instrument that measures the distance that you have traveled by foot in steps. This will keep you occupied and give you a quota and record to beat each time you go for a walk.  Believe me, having a pedometer helps you more than you know, it is a small investment that goes a long way.

4) Although walking alone can easily eliminate your stress, once you get comfortable with it, you can incorporate a bit of jogging into your walk as well.  You do not need to jog if you prefer not to. And if you end up trying for a little jog, you do not need to jog the whole way. Find your level of comfortability while getting your body and muscles to work. For example, if you walk for a total of one hour, every eighteen minutes you could jog for a total of two minutes, and then continue to walk. Repeat this and for the last stretch you will jog home.

5) Be sure to cool down once you are done with your walk if you do incorporate some jogging to eliminate extra stress, walking in general and keeping your arms up high allows you to breathe and slow down the rate in which your body is working.

Walking may seem like it is something that you do everyday in order to get from point A to Point B, but that is not the same as walking simply to exercise. When you keep yourself occupied with exercise, such as walking, your mind will slowly rid itself of all the stress that has been building up from the beginning of your day. The fact that anybody can walk is what makes it most possibly the best way to relieve stress, so regardless of who you are and what you do, you could try a little walk and relieve all of that stress buildup immediately.   A little extra tip… perhaps you remember when you are going for a shopping or doing something fun, you don’t actually remember that you are doing all the walking. World Earth day was recently celebrated, as to bring about more awareness of taking care of our environment. Earth day is more than just taking care of the environment but it also involves taking care of our health. One needs the other. When we take care of our health, we care for our environment, just as when we take care of our environment we are taking care of our health. Imagine if we used up all the trees and did not rebuild any. Where would our source of oxygen come from?

The ozone layer is quickly being destroyed and because of it many people around the world are suffering. The Glaciers which were once the life source of some countries’ livelihood and means of overall survival, is now melting at too fast a pace. People are forced to leave their villages and families and migrate elsewhere for work. Their only source of water is now either too little or no more. Without water in some villages for proper use, it can cause suffering and illness. While in other countries where there is constant flooding, it’s a breeding ground for disease.

We may begin to tear up when we see or hear about such suffering happening to people in third world countries were poverty is the order of the day. Yet we all are contributing to their woes by the products we use in our hair, on our skin and the oils we use in our vehicles. All these contribute to the destruction of our earth. Prevention is always better than cure. Doctors and scientists are working hard at finding a cure for cancer, yet look at how many things we do that causes us to get cancer.

The packaging of food and certain products that we use have a high risk of giving us cancer. We need to realize that when we kill our environment, we are really killing ourselves. People need to get of the mentality that if it does not affect or concern me then why I should bother. Here is where they are making a big mistake. Just because your area is not flooding or going through a drought does not mean it does not affect you. You may not see the affects of it directly or right away, but once it affects the earth you live on, it affects you.

The sun has become ten times hotter than it was twenty years ago. People are bulking up on sunscreens because of fear of the sun’s UV rays. Those who don’t are looking for ant-wrinkle and anti-aging creams to repair the sun’s damage. We need to do our part in preserving our earth. Make a decisive effort to keep a clean scene.  If you can afford to go organic then avoid using inorganic foods and products. Walk when you can instead of driving, as we already have way too many vehicles on the road anyway. Recycling your garbage and planting a tree is all part of it.
